Resource Group for Women and Health

Sama’s engagement with issues of women and health evolved in the context of the autonomous women’s movement and seeks to locate the concerns of women’s health and well being in the larger context of socio-historical, economic and political realities. Sama’s research on ARTs was started in 2004. The first phase that ended in 2006 was conducted in the three metros of Delhi, Mumbai and Hyderabad was aimed at understanding the social, medical, economic and ethical implications of ARTs. It documented the experiences of women users of these technologies as well as the perspectives of those who provide them. Sama is also trying to explore the increasing medical tourism to India by foreigners seeking cost effective ART procedures and surrogates.

Generation Ahead

Generation Ahead works with social justice organizations around the country to expand the public debate on genetic technologies. By looking at the benefits and risks of these technologies for different communities we promote policies that ensure full respect and human rights for all people. We work to increase the public awareness of the many social implications of genetics and build the capacity of organizations and leaders to develop more informed positions.

CREA is a feminist organization based in the global South and led by women from the global South. CREA promotes, protects and advances women’s human rights and the sexual rights of all people by strengthening feminist leadership, organizations and movements, influencing global and national advocacy, creating information, knowledge and scholarship, changing public attitudes and discourses, and addressing exclusion. CREA seeks a world in which laws, policies, norms, and practices at the local, national and international levels affirm women’s rights and the sexual rights of all people.

Center for Genetics & Society

The Center for Genetics and Society is a nonprofit information and public affairs organization working to encourage responsible uses and effective societal governance of the new human genetic and reproductive technologies. We work with a growing network of scientists, health professionals, civil society leaders, and others. The Center supports benign and beneficent medical applications of the new human genetic and reproductive technologies, and opposes those applications that objectify and commodify human life and threaten to divide human society.

Our Bodies Ourselves

Our Bodies Ourselves (OBOS), also known as the Boston Women’s Health Book Collective (BWHBC), is a nonprofit, public interest women’s health education, advocacy, and consulting organization. OBOS provides clear, truthful information about health, sexuality and reproduction from a feminist and consumer perspective. We vigorously advocate for women’s health by challenging the institutions and systems that block women from full control over our bodies and devalue our lives. Our long-standing commitment to serve only in the public interest and our bridge-building capacity are our hallmarks.
